Suggested 4-year Plan
- We encourage you to select your General Education (GE) and minor/second major/Themed Inquiry/Honors program around the plan below. Once you fill your GE classes around your major classes, you will have a better idea of space remaining each semester when choosing your Exploration Focus.
- To be enrolled full time, you must take at least 12 credits a semester.
- In order to graduate within 4 years, we recommend you take 30 credits a year.
Year 1
Fall Semester (10-11 credits for major)
- FFC 100B - First Year Foundations: Grand Challenges in Science and Engineering (3 credits)
- MATH 115 - Accelerated Calculus Part I: Differentiation and Integration (4 credits) OR MATH 110: Calculus I*
- CHEM 140 - General Chemistry I (3 credits)**
- CHEM 140L - General Chemistry I Laboratory (1 credit)
Spring Semester (10 credits for major)
- CHEM 100 - Introduction to the Chemistry and Biochemistry Majors and Career Paths (1 credit)
- MATH 116 - Accelerated Calculus Part II: Series, Differential Equations and Multivariable Calculus (4 credits) OR MATH 111 Calculus II
- CHEM 150 - General Chemistry II (3 credits)
- CHEM 150L - General Chemistry II Laboratory (1 credit)
- SCI 150 - Grand Challenges in Science and Engineering I (1 credit)
* The accelerated MATH 115, MATH 116 sequence is recommended for strong mathematics students with a calculus background. However, students can substitute the MATH 110, MATH 111, MATH 210 sequence if they choose.
** Students applying AP or IB test scores to waive CHEM 140/CHEM 140L or PHYS 101 should note that these courses may need to be taken at a college/university to fulfill the requirements for medical school and/or other graduate programs. May begin PHYS 101 spring first year if MATH 115 (or MATH 110) completed. Take PHYS 102 fall second year.
Year 2
Fall Semester (8 credits for major)
- SCI 200 - Grand Challenges in Science and Engineering II (1 credit)
- CHEM 230 - Organic Chemistry I (3 credits)
- CHEM 230L - Organic Chemistry I Laboratory (1 credit)
- MATH 210 - Multivariable Calculus, if needed (3 credits) [Do not need MATH 210 if MATH 116 is completed]
Spring Semester (9-12 credits for major)
- PHYS 101 - General Physics I (3 credits)**
- PHYS 101L - General Physics I Laboratory (1 credit)
- SCI 250 - Grand Challenges in Science and Engineering III (1 credit)
- CHEM 331 - Organic Chemistry II (3 credits)
- CHEM 331L - Organic Chemistry II Laboratory (1 credit)
- CHEM 220 - Scientific Computing (3 credits)***
