» Office of the University Registrar

***SPECIAL NOTICE: In order to compassionately accommodate the needs of our students during this time, the university is extending the Pass/No Pass and Withdraw deadlines to the last day of instruction for our undergraduate programs. This is for the Spring 2020 semester only. Students can make these changes in the Student Center and should refer to the Grading Basis instructions for details. Graduate students should contact their program directors for information on how to petition to change the grade basis of a class. Graduate Health Sciences and Law programs will not have the Pass/No Pass option.

Important information about changing to Pass/No Pass for undergraduates:

  • All undergraduate courses for Spring 2020 have been updated to allow students the option between letter graded or Pass/No Pass, and any courses made P/NP will not count toward the 6 credit P/NP yearly limit policy.
  • The cut-off grade to receive a pass for undergraduates is C-. If you choose P/NP and receive a grade below C-, you will not receive credit for the course. If it is important to receive credit for the course, for instance, if it is a General Education course, and your grade is below a C-, you should not change to P/NP.
  • Some major and minor programs require that major or minor courses must be taken for a letter grade. This requirement is being waived this semester only. Courses that are required for the major or minor may be taken P/NP and will count towards the major or minor. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with program advisors if they are considering professional graduate programs (such as medical school), as certain professional degree programs and institutions will expect courses to be taken for a letter grade.***
