» How to Participate in a Degree Ceremony

Commencement Weekend 2020 is rescheduled to a future date. The dates below will remain applicable to degree conferral and the rescheduled degree ceremonies *

Below is important information on the steps that are required in order to participate in a degree ceremony.

Step 1: Apply for Degree Conferral

Preferred deadline to apply for degree conferral for May 2020 Commencement is January 15, 2020

Undergraduate Students

  • Bachelor’s Degree completed and conferred: Have met all degree requirements prior to the 2020 spring semester and have been conferred in August 2019 or January 2020.
  • Bachelor’s Degree yet to be completed: Students who are of senior standing and have completed 90 credits or more may participate in the May 2020 Commencement Ceremonies. An application for degree conferral must be on file no later than April 16, 2020. Petitions for exceptions to this policy will not be accepted.

Graduate Students

  • Master’s or Doctoral Degree completed and conferred: Have met all degree requirements prior to the 2020 spring semester and have been conferred in August 2019 or January 2020.
  • Master’s or Doctoral Degree to be completed in May 2020: Have filed an application for degree conferral for May 2019 by the preferred application deadline of January 15, 2020 and have completed or are pending completion of all degree requirements by the end of the 2020 spring semester. Graduate students must pass any required comprehensive examinations in the 2020 spring semester.
  • Walk Short of Completion of Credits: Have applied for degree conferral with an August 2019 conferral date, and by the end of the spring semester have only the degree requirements remaining. Walk short policy by School and/or College.

Step 2: RSVP for a Degree Ceremony

RSVP for Commencement 2020 is temporarily closed until the new ceremony dates have been determined. RSVP will reopen once the new ceremonies have been scheduled. 

Step 3: Order Cap & Gown

In order to participate in Commencement exercises graduates are required to wear official Chapman University regalia.

Step 4: Print your Degree Ceremony Passport

You will need your Degree Ceremony Passport in order to participate in a degree ceremony. Degree Ceremony Passports are emailed to students the week of Commencement to their chapman email accounts.
