»Panther Exploratory Pre-Orientation Program

The Panther Exploratory Pre-Orientation Program is exclusively for incoming, first-year Exploratory Majors and helps them learn more about the university and the Exploratory process.

Exploratory Majors entering Chapman in fall 2026 can find more details about the program below. A more detailed agenda will be available in early summer. Details are subject to change.

Move-in detailsStudent at move-in day

  • For students who will be living on campus, the program begins on Sunday, August 16 with early move-in to your Chapman residence hall.
  • After you check-in, you will be able to get settled into your new home at Chapman on Sunday evening.

Be sure to keep an eye on your Chapman email for more information on your upcoming Chapman move-in.

For families who will be staying in the area during orientation, information about local accommodations can be found here.

Program details

Programming kicks off the day after move-in (Monday, August 17) and will include dedicated sessions for students and parents/guardians.

  • 6 p.m.: Move-in.

Monday, August 17, 2026

For students:

  • 7:30 a.m.: Breakfast opens at Randall Dining Commons.
  • 10 a.m.–3 p.m.: Career Development: Launchpad to Success (lunch will be provided).
    • In this session, you will meet the Career and Professional Development team as they guide you through various ways to maximize your first year at Chapman. Learn about ties between your academic path and your future career and explore the different options that Chapman offers.

Tuesday, August 18, 2026

For students:

  • 7:30 a.m.: Breakfast opens at Randall Dining Commons.
  • 10 a.m.–11 a.m.: Design your College Life (Not just your major): Miriam Martinez.
    • This is a 60-minute Interactive workshop on Designing your College Life. In this session, students will map out their academic goals, social involvement and wellness habits.
  • 12 p.m.–1 p.m.: Lunch on your own.
  • 1 p.m.–2 p.m.: Advising Panel (students and parents).
    • In this session you will meet academic advisors, and the Director of Advising. They will answer questions related to programs, courses, General Education requirements, university policies, etc.
  • 7 p.m.–8 p.m.: Opening Convocation Ceremony (gates open at 6 p.m.).

For parents:

  • 10 a.m.–11 a.m.: The Power of Exploration (Parents Only): Dr. Brad Petitfils and Dr. Louise Thomas.
    • Join our Vice Provost and Associate Vice Provost, Dr’s. Brad Petitfils and Louise Thomas, for an engaging conversation about academic life at Chapman. Learn more about academic pathways and intentional exploration of majors and how exploration can lead to a life of purpose. Hear about academic resources that can provide guidance and support to empower students along their academic journey.

Are all students required to take part in the Panther Exploratory Pre-Orientation Program?

Yes, Undeclared/Exploraory students are required to participate. However, if you absolutely cannot participate in the Panther Exploratory Pre-Orientation Program, please email miriamm@chapman.edu to discuss your absence.

What if I can only participate in some of the programming?

With the exception of the early move-in (which you would be excused from if you are not living on campus), you should make plans to participate in the entire program. If you have questions about this, please email miriamm@chapman.edu to schedule a conversation.

Do I need to register to confirm I am attending?

We would like you to register to both confirm your participation and include any guests who will also be participating. 

How many family members can attend?

Programming has been planned for students and parents/guardians only. Other family members can attend the sessions for parents/guardians on Monday, and families are welcome to attend orientation events that begin on Tuesday (pending their registration).

Will all Undeclared/Exploratory students be living in the same Living-Learning Community/residence hall?

Participants will be housed in any of the following residence halls:

  • Henley Hall
  • Glass Hall
  • Pralle-Sodaro Hall
  • Sandhu Residence Center

Participants will be grouped together on the same floor in their respective building. Final room assignments will be sent from Residence Life in mid-July.
