Keck Center for Science and Engineering

» Explore the Keck Center

The Keck Center is the home of our Schmid College of Science and Technology and future home of our Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler School of Engineering. The Center’s opening in fall 2018 signals a tremendous step forward in the STEM fields at Chapman University.

This facility helps power the convergence of science and technology on our campus. It also ushers in a new era of our faculty and students collaborating – across programs and disciplines – to solve global challenges.

Facilities that Foster Innovation

A student doing research at the Keck Center for Science and EngineeringThe Keck Center is a 140,000 square-foot facility covering 2.25 acres. Throughout that space, everything is tailored to support our number one priority: student achievement.

The building supports our students with meeting, collaboration, and ideation spaces that foster the unstructured interactions that lead to transformative innovations.

This includes more than 25 research labs and 20 modern teaching labs as well as:

  • Innovative classroom designs that enable learners to move seamlessly between lecture, lab, and team-based experiences.
  • Research-quality equipment that is infused into teaching labs to prepare students for independent inquiry with faculty.
  • An active learning classroom for computational and data sciences.
  • A shared core lab for high-resolution imaging, including 2 scanning electron microscopes and a laser-scanning confocal microscope with sub-wavelength resolution.
  • A world-class high-performance computing facility.
  • Core labs for molecular and environmental analysis.
  • A wide range of reconfigurable indoor and outdoor meeting spaces to support interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Fifty faculty offices and a faculty/staff lounge and patio.
  • An outdoor amphitheater.
  • A graduate student lounge.
