»Early Application Options

Chapman has two early application options for first-year applicants applying in fall: Early Action and Early Decision. The main difference between the two options is that:

• Early Action (EA) is non-binding; you can choose to accept or decline admission.
• Early Decision (ED) is binding; you must commit to Chapman if admitted.

If Chapman is your top choice and you are considering applying ED, below are some key details to help you make your decision.

Advantages of applying Early Decision

If Chapman is your top choice, applying Early Decision offers several benefits:

• Applying ED demonstrates your strong interest in joining the Chapman community.
• ED applications receive a more generous review, reflecting the level of commitment behind an Early Decision application.
• ED applicants generally receive decisions before Early Action or Regular Decision applicants.
• An Early Decision admission allows you to conclude your college search sooner. This can reduce the stress, effort and costs associated with the college search and allow you to:
  • Focus on enjoying the rest of your senior year.
  • Get a head start on preparing for your first semester of college.

Please note that if you apply Early Decision and are admitted but determine that you cannot afford to attend Chapman, you can be released from your Early Decision Agreement.

Other Early Decision considerations

Before applying Early Decision to Chapman, consider the following:

• Chapman offers two Early Decision options:
  • ED I: November 1 deadline, mid-December notification.
  • ED II: January 15 deadline, early to mid-February notification.
• You can apply Early Decision to any undergraduate major or program at Chapman.
•  If you apply Early Decision, you will also need to submit an Early Decision Agreement through the Common App. This agreement also requires verification from a parent/guardian and high school counselor.
• In rare cases when ED applicants are deferred to the Regular Decision pool, they are released from their Early Decision Agreement.
