»First-Year Housing Application Process

To do: Submit Housing Application

To live in Chapman housing you must complete the housing application. You can do so via our Housing Portal.

fy-housing.jpgHere are the most important things to know about applying to housing at Chapman as a first-year student:

  • First-year students are required to live on campus unless they live within 30 miles of campus with a relative.
  • If you are looking to live off campus, you must submit a Petition to Live Off Campus form. See below for details.
  • First year students are placed in first-year Living Learning communities. See below for more details.
  • Students who deferred from a previous term must complete a new housing application for the term they are entering Chapman.

Living-Learning Communities

Residence hall assignments for first-year students are based on their academic program (Fenestra Living-Learning Communities). Individual rooming assignments are based on the living preference questions in the online housing application.

Fenestra Living-Learning Communities help first-year students forge connections with peers, faculty and the university. They also encourage students to engage in interdisciplinary, university-level critical inquiry and reflection.

First-year application process

Unless you plan to petition to live off campus, complete the following steps to submit your housing application:

  1. Due May 1: Submit your Housing Reservation Payment. The Housing Reservation Payment is your deposit on housing at Chapman. It is $500. You can submit your Housing Reservation Payment through your Application Status page.
  2. Due May 15: Submit your housing application via the Chapman Housing Portal. You will need to log into the housing portal with your Chapman email address and password.

Once you have completed all the steps, you are finished submitting your housing application.

Now you can wait for your housing notification message to be sent to your Chapman email. This message provides your housing assignment, roommate(s), contact information and other details to help you move into your residential community. Housing notifications will be sent to your Chapman email in mid-July.
