Block Scheduling

» Block Scheduling

Block scheduling is when a student is automatically pre-enrolled into a number of courses.

To ensure incoming first-year students enroll in the courses recommended by their major degree program, most will be automatically block scheduled into a number of fall courses.

Who gets block scheduled

block-scheduling.jpgFirst-year students in select majors who are entering in the fall will be block scheduled into 1-5 courses. This applies to all majors except the following, who will not be blocked scheduled into any courses:

  • French
  • Music majors
  • Religious Studies
  • Spanish

Transfer students and first-years entering in the spring are also not block scheduled.

Those who are not block scheduled should work with their Academic Advisor on selecting major-specific courses for their first semester.

Next steps for block scheduling

For those who are block scheduled, you will be able to view the class meeting dates and times of your pre-registered fall courses in your Student Center

  • You will receive an email when those courses have been added sometime in May or June.
  • To view your pre-registered classes:
    • Go to your Student Center and click on the "Manage Classes" tile.
    • Under "Class Schedule" (on the left-hand side), you'll see an option to "View my Classes."
    • Click that to see the classes (including dates and times) you've been scheduled into.
  • If you would like to move to different sections of the courses you are registered in, you will have the opportunity to do so based on section availability during new student registration in July.
  • Fall new student registration will open in July. You can find your assigned registration date and time in your Student Center. (Specific instructions for finding your date and time are also available on the Advising website.)
  • New student registration is also the time when you can add non-major specific courses, such as language, FFC 100, and other general education courses.
  • As a reminder, you must complete your virtual advising and math assessment in order to be eligible to register (and remove your registration holds).
