Biography

Megan A. Vendemia is an assistant professor in the School of Communication at Chapman University. Her research centers on the social and psychological implications of communication technology and newer media. She primarily uses quantitative experimental methods to examine the factors that make people perceive online information to be more authentic, credible, and ultimately, more influential. Broadly, her work focuses on how people evaluate and are impacted by others online, and how people construct and are influenced by their own online identities, specifically in the context of body image. Her current projects explore the effects of self-photography (i.e., selfies) and how visual content creation, modification, and curation practices impact viewers and posters of images online.
