» Graduate Writing Assistants

Graduate Writing Assistants (GWAs), supported by the Office of Graduate Education and the English Department’s Writing Center, are available for all Chapman University graduate students to assist with the research and writing process. For Fall 2021, Graduate Writing Assistants are available to help all graduate students with digital support (there are no on-campus, in-person hours available).

GWAs are available to graduate students to assist with tutoring in research and writing, focusing on both the rhetorical and technical conventions of scholarly and creative writing in specific disciplines, from the physical and health sciences to screenwriting. The tutors are also trained to help graduate students during their completion of substantial graduate program writing requirements, such as research papers, articles for publication, theses, and dissertations. GWAs can help with style guide formatting, issues related to English as a secondary language, and utilizing the library’s resources for research.

For digital writing assistance from a GWA, please email graduatetutor@chapman.edu along with your document copied into the body of the email as well as attached to it. In the text of your email, please include:

  • Your name
  • Your student ID number
  • How you heard about the GWA program (e.g., a friend, an instructor, orientation, signs on campus, an email announcement, or otherwise)
  • Your graduate program
  • A brief description of the assignment
  • A brief explanation of the type of help you’d like or any specific questions you have

A GWA will respond within 48 hours to emails sent Monday through Thursday. If you send the email on a Friday, you may not receive a response until Monday. We do our best to respond to you as soon as possible and appreciate your patience!
