Professor Alexander Bay went to Japan from July to September 2014. He received a teaching and research award under the Core U.S. Fulbright Scholar Program. Alexander Bay collected historical documents, taught classes at Aoyama University and participated in study groups. The Asian Society for the Social History of Medicine group, based out of Aoyama University, held a special session to review his book, Beriberi in Modern Japan: The Making of a National Disease. Alexander Bay participated in the Invisible Waves project that brings literature scholars and artists together to write, read and perform works dealing with the March 2011 earthquake and subsequent nuclear crisis.
