Tomaszewski, D. was quoted this past month in Drug Topics article, "Biosimilar Naming Could Affect Confidence in Dispensing.”  The article was a review of the findings of Dan’s biosimilar naming study that was published in JMCP. A similar article was published by STAT, Pharmalot online journal and referenced by a number of pharmacy associations in previous months. He is currently working on a follow-up study aimed at reviewing student pharmacists' education on biosimilars and will continue to follow the clinical and economic impact of biosimilars as their availability grows.

Montazeri, H. has been selected as the recipient of this year’s AACP Teacher of the Year and was honored at the Teacher of the Year banquet at the July 2016 AACP meeting in Anaheim.

Lam, JT. received professional recognition as a Director of the CSHP Research and Education Foundation Board of Directors for the 2016-2019 term. She will sit on the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Tomaszewski, Dan is mentoring Timmy Huyhn, who was selected as a recipient of the PQA-CVS Health Foundation Scholars Program. The program provides a $1,250 scholarship to scholars to attend the PQA Leadership Summit in November and present the results of their project at the PQA Annual Meeting in May. Timmy will be working with Dr. Tomaszewski to evaluate the role of technicians in providing patient care in outpatient pharmacies with a focus on development of technician to patient relationship and impact on medication adherence.

Grants

Noreddin A has been awarded a collaborative research grant:

  • The grant is titled “Quorum Quenching Enzymes: New Trends in Antibacterial Treatment”. The total amount of the grant assigned to Chapman University and Dr. Noreddin is $15,000 for research and training expenses.  The grant was funded through Joint Collaborative Efforts of Egyptian Expatriates and Scientific Organization toward tackling national R&D (JESOR).  The grant ($40,000) has been awarded by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology in Egypt to Faculty of Pharmacy, Future University in Egypt and Chapman University School of Pharmacy.  Future University will pay for travel expenses a team of three faculty from the Microbiology and Immunology Department to travel to Chapman University for training and for Dr. Noreddin to travel to Egypt to present the data, consult in research, and establish the collaboration.
