Summer Film Academy

» Learn all aspects of filmmaking in just two weeks!

Upates for Summer 2021:

We are heartbroken to have to cancel this year's Summer Film Academy because of the pandemic. Orange County remains in the purple tier on the 4-tier county risk level which means that our campus remains limited to essential staff and those participating in the limited-in-person instruction. A large part of our Summer Film Academy is the hands-on component of filmmaking which includes the ability to work with the equipment and facilties available at Dodge College, all while staying in our dorms on campus. We would not be able to ensure the personalized instruction that our faculty have created nor do we want to diminish the quality of instruction, therefore we have come to the decision to cancel Summer Film Academy for 2021.

Summer Film Academy

Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts offers a two-week comprehensive, collaborative and creative high school film program during the summer.

For two weeks students are immersed in the world of film through class discussions, film screenings, guest speakers, field trips, and filmmaking in small groups. They live and breathe filmmaking around the clock while being taught by Dodge College faculty and mentored by current Dodge College students and alumni. All of this will be shared with their peers as they work in groups to create short digital, narrative projects which are showcased to families on the final night of the program in our 500-seat Folino Theater.
