Eddie's bio

Hey there! My name is Eddie Mejia and I’m a Senior Admission Counselor here at Chapman University. I’m a native of Los Angeles and grew up in Downey. I went to Saint John Bosco High School and then attended California State University, Chico. Once I graduated, I moved back down to Southern California to begin my career in higher education. As a first-generation college graduate, I get to continue my work in admission at Chapman where I can support students throughout the application process and help them achieve their goals by going to college.

Advice from Eddie

Feel confident to take ownership of your application process. You can always reach out to university representatives to ask questions and learn how you can create an application that best highlights why you’re a good fit for the university!

Favorite spot on campus

The walkway within the Schmid College of Science and Technology building. You have a great view of Wilson field and can even see the fireworks from Disneyland!

Best admission memory

My favorite memory is connecting with students I worked with throughout the application process and welcoming them to campus during Orientation day. It’s great to see the journey students go through, and then see them begin that next step within their lives.

Fast facts

Three words to describe myself: Energetic, curious and passionate.

Favorite subject: History — especially Renaissance history!

Role model: My father. If I had to choose someone not related to me, Leonardo Da Vinci.

Favorite musical performer/band/composer: Queen/Freddie Mercury.

Most prized possessions: My posters and street art I collect whenever I travel. I always enjoy finding vintage travel posters from cities I visit. I also make it a goal to support local artists and take something back home that I can hang up in the office.

Favorite summer activities: Traveling to different countries, going to the beach and playing Spikeball with friends.

Book you would read again: The Privileged Poor.

Best movies of all time: The Artist, Spider-Man into the Spider Verse, The Dark Knight.

Favorite quote: “A charmed life is one that goes down a river not knowing what’s beyond the bend, but confident nevertheless that gracious strangers will be there in one form or another to aid and abet and be a guide through turbulent waters.” - Andrew Lam.

Dream job: Have my own TV show where I get to eat great food and travel all across Italy... so basically I have to take Stanley Tucci’s job. (Sorry, not sorry Stanley.)
