Chapman University reserves the right to modify the holiday schedule as appropriate.
Holiday pay for employees with a regular schedule of less than 40 hours per week will
be prorated based on their regular work schedule as follows:
- Employees with a regular schedule of 30 or more hours but less than 40 hours per week will be paid six (6) hours of holiday pay for all of the holidays listed
- Employees with a regular schedule of 20 or more hours but less than 30 hours per week will be paid four (4) hours of holiday pay for all of the holidays listed above.
The following applies to all scheduled holidays (except for the Extended Independence
Day Holidays): staff employees who are either required or requested by the University
to work on a scheduled holiday will be paid regular wages for all hours worked, plus
any holiday pay for which they are eligible. Should a holiday occur on a staff employee's
regular day off, that day off will be paid as a holiday.
Exclusively for the Extended Independence Day Holidays, the following applies: staff
employees who are either required or requested by the University to work on the Extended
Independence Day Holidays have two options: (1) work on the extended holiday(s) and
receive regular wages for all hours worked, plus any holiday pay for which they are
eligible; OR (2) defer the extended holiday(s) to another selected day as approved
by the department head. The election form must be submitted to payroll by the Wednesday
prior to the holiday you wish to defer. You may take the deferred holiday no earlier
than the first day of the pay period the holiday falls in and no later than the last
working day prior to winter break of the same calendar year.
In the event that an employee is absent from work unexpectedly on the last scheduled
workday before and/or the first scheduled workday after a holiday, the employee’s
supervisor will, in consultation with Human Resources, determine if supporting documentation
is necessary in order for the employee to receive holiday pay. An employee who is
unexpectedly absent from work on the day before and/or on the day after a holiday
is not automatically ineligible for holiday pay.
