Assistant Professor of Economics at Middlebury College David Munro

Q: What were some of your favorite things to do in the OC? (i.e. restaurants, parks, day-trips, night life, etc.)

The OC was great! Some favorite food spots were Great Mex in Newport for taco Tuesday, Gabbi's in Orange (when I could afford it..), and Tandoor Cuisine on Katella is a great Indian spot if you like it spicy. Rock climbing up in Big Bear was always a great weekend excursion and I used to love going down to the beach to (try to) surf.

Q: What was your educational/career background before you joined the program?

My undergraduate work/early career was in Engineering, so Economics was pretty new to me when I arrived at ESI!

Q: What was your favorite aspect of the program?

My favorite part of the program was certainly the professors, projects, and seminars. The faculty at ESI are world-class and they were always willing to engage with the students, which I found invaluable. The seminars and projects helped students get exposure to current research and taught us how to develop and work through research questions.

Q: What are you doing now and how did ESI help prepare you?

I continued on in academia after leaving ESI and I am currently an Assistant Professor of Economics at Middlebury College.

Q: Any words of advice for future students?

1) Be a sponge at ESI. It's a great group of researchers asking interesting questions.

2) Try to learn how to program. It's invaluable for conducting your own research and/or designing and running experiment software.
