For staff and administrators, what determines the position’s pay range?
Below are criteria that can determine a position’s pay range for staff and administrative positions.
- Scope of job and responsibilities
- Industry and external market data- External market demands across similarly aligned positions across Southern California peer group universities or local market for remote employees in California or outside of California.
- Internal benchmark data- Review of similar job responsibilities across your department, within the division, and expanded throughout campus.
- Geography- Location of the position. Chapman jobs located out of state are reviewed based on the scope of responsibilities and subject to review of local market geographic pay ranges.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Each position requires a level of competency and/or subject matter expertise that may range from novice to advanced to perform the minimum qualifications for the position. Some examples are command of job skills to perform tasks, work experience, needed education and/or professional certification(s), and for current employees- university knowledge.
I am a staff or administrator and I have received the pay range for my position. Now I have a follow up question. Who should I direct it to?
Please reply back to the same email response containing the pay range information for any follow-up questions. Should the appropriate HR team need further clarification or support to answer your follow-up question(s), they will reach out to your supervisor.
