About
The certificate in Applied Statistical Analysis is offered by the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research. It equips undergraduate students with a strong foundation in statistics and data analysis. This foundation will provide the knowledge to serve the expanding career opportunities in business, industry, government and education. Students must complete at least 15 semester hours of courses as well as a Bloomberg Certification as described in “Course Requirements.” All certificate requirements must be completed by the date of graduation. The certificate will be listed on the transcript.

Admission Requirements
Chapman University undergraduate students are eligible for admission to the Certification Program. Applications should be made through the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research in Beckman Hall 306, or by emailing acer@chapman.edu.
Grade Requirements
Students must receive a cumulative 3.0 GPA or above in all required courses.
Residency Requirements
All advanced courses must be taken in residency at Chapman University.

Bloomberg Certification
Students complete the certification on their own using a Bloomberg terminal. By Bloomberg’s policy, this Certification CANNOT be retaken, you must pass on your first attempt.
- 8-hour self-paced learning course
- Provides introduction to financial markets
- 4 modules - Economics, Currencies, Fixed Income and Equities
- A minimum of 70% grade is required on each section of the questions that are embedded in the lessons.
- A Bloomberg certificate is provided upon successful completion.
Other Information
For more information on how to become Bloomberg certified, check the Janes Financial Center website. The Bloomberg terminals are in the Janes Financial Center on the second floor of Beckman Hall. You may also contact the Janes Center’s assistant on how to access the terminals.
For those who will enroll in FIN 317, it is preferable to go through the Bloomberg certification after completing FIN 317.
Once you complete the Bloomberg certification, attach a copy of the certificate and a copy of your scores on the tests for the certificate to an email and send it to acer@chapman.edu.
You must apply for conferral of certificate online, the same way you apply for conferral of degree.
You may check the degree evaluation to see whether you have the required 3.0 GPA. Once all grades are in, an email will be sent to you informing you that the degree and certificate are posted in the system.

Frequently Asked Questions
A: Yes, the requirement is “a cumulative 3.0 GPA in all required courses.” If you have one B-, and one B+, those will average to a 3.0.
Q: Do I have to have all requirements completed before applying?
A: No. You can apply anytime after taking MGSC 220 or MGSC 209.
Q: I have completed all the classes and the Bloomberg, but the Certificate is not on my Program Evaluation.
A: You must apply for the Certificate, similarly to how you declare your intention to take a minor. You must apply PRIOR to your undergraduate graduation.
Q: I have completed the Bloomberg, but it is not checked off on my program evaluation.
A: You must send proof of the Bloomberg to acer@chapman.edu, with your scores and a copy of your certificate. This is your responsibility, as we are not notified when you complete the Bloomberg.
Q: I am a 4+1 master’s student. Can I get the Certificate?
A: This is an undergraduate certificate. 4+1 students must finish all requirements PRIOR to their undergraduate graduation. Applying while an undergraduate is a requirement. Master’s students are not eligible, even if you completed classes and the Bloomberg during your time as an undergraduate.
Q: Is there a deadline for applying?
A: The only deadline is your undergraduate graduation. However, it is recommended to apply anytime after taking MGSC 220 or MGSC 209, to ensure paperwork is taken care of on time.
Q: When should I take the Bloomberg?
A: The Bloomberg is self-paced, and you can take it any time prior to your graduation. However, it is currently Bloomberg’s policy that the certification cannot be retaken without paying $150, so make sure you are well prepared before taking the course. You may want to sign up for a 1-hour Bloomberg Training to familiarize yourself with the terminals beforehand. If you intend to take FIN 317, it is preferable to complete the class prior to the Bloomberg certification.
Q: Where do I take the Bloomberg?
A: Go to the Janes Financial Center on the second floor of Beckman Hall. You may take the 8-hour self-paced course there. If you have any questions, please email jfcresidency@chapman.edu.
Q: Can I substitute a class?
A: Students may substitute MATH 110 or MGSC 208 for MATH 109, or MATH 203 for MGSC 209. If you have further questions, email acer@chapman.edu.

A: You must apply for Conferral of the Certificate, the same way you did for Conferral of Degree.
