IMPORTANT!
Many are experiencing difficulties installing NVivo for Mac on computers with an Apple Silicon System On Chip (e.g., M1/M2/Mx). If you encounter the error message 'NVivo needs permission to access data on your computer before it can run' and giving full disk access does not resolve the issue, the following solution has been recommended by Nvivo:
- Please download this file titled "cloudtabs.zip."
- Double-click cloudtabs.zip to expand it. This will give you a new file titled "cloudtabs.db".
- Make sure NVivo is closed and make sure Full Disk Access permissions in System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy tab is removed for NVivo.
- Restart the computer and then add Full Disk Access permissions again for NVivo. Do not launch NVivo.
- From the Finder, click on the Go menu.
- Hold down the Option key on your keyboard. You will see a new menu option labeled Library.
- Click on Library to open the Library folder.
- Within the Library folder, navigate to the Safari folder, then move "cloudtabs.db" into the Safari folder.
- Close the Finder windows and re-launch NVivo.
What is CloudTabs.db?
The Cloudtabs.db file is used to sync between devices using iCloud. Even if you do not currently use iCloud, NVivo uses the file to check the permissions of accessing the disk by reading the file. If NVivo can access the file, that means the app has the permission and it will not prompt for full disk access.
