» Visiting Collaborator Grant

Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science provides funding (up to $2000) to assist faculty in bringing colleagues to campus to further their scholarly and creative projects. A visiting collaborator is defined as a scholar/faculty member/author/artist not employed by Chapman University who visits campus to work with a Wilkinson College faculty member on a research or creative project.

Eligibility: All Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science full time Faculty members may apply. Applications are accepted throughout the year.

The general requirements for the Visiting Collaborator Grant are:

Completion of Visiting Collaborator Grant Form.

Provide a clear and concise description of the project, including the specific outcome expected from collaboration during the scholar’s visit.

A projected budget for the visit, including all expenses and sources of support. Identify the specific expenses in your budget to which the Grant would be applied.

A short curriculum vitae (max. 3 pages) for the collaborator and the faculty member making the request.

An uploaded letter of recommendation from the faculty member’s department chair supporting the visit.

Criteria for Evaluation:

  • The importance of the material to the applicant’s professional development and research agenda/creative plan.
  • Priority will be given to proposals from junior faculty members who are approaching their tenure decision year (TDY).

Note: Chapman University follows Internal Revenue Service guidelines with regards to the payment of nonresident aliens. A nonresident for tax purposes is a person who is not a US citizen and who does not pass either the "Green Card" test or the Substantial Presence test. Payments can only be made to nonresident aliens who have been granted the appropriate employment authorization and visa status. In order to simplify the process of determining residency status, Chapman University uses software (GLACIER). Prior to making any payments to an international person, they are required to complete a simple questionnaire from the GLACIER software. Please contact your Administrative Assistant for more information regarding your guest completing a Glacier form. Payments to Nonresident Aliens may be subject to Federal and State income tax withholding.
