Where is the Department of Art located on campus?

The Art Department is housed in Moulton Hall, right by the Guggenheim Gallery, giving you a true creative home. With studios, collaborative spaces, and faculty offices all under one roof, you’ll be part of a close-knit community where ideas flow and creativity thrives.

How many faculty teach in the department?

The Art Department creates a thriving learning environment with 12 full-time faculty and a vibrant group of part-time lecturers each semester. You’ll develop under professors who know your work and learn from professionals bringing real-world experience to every class.

What degrees does the Department of Art offer?

The Art Department gives you the flexibility to shape your creative path with three degrees—BFA in Studio Art, BFA in Graphic Design, and BA in Art History—as well as minors in Art, Art History, and Graphic Design. Your professors aren’t just teachers—they’re advisors and mentors who guide you to reach your full potential and launch your career.

How many students are in the Department of Art?

Just the right size to know you by name! Each year, the Art Department welcomes around 35–50 declared Art majors and minors, giving you a close-knit community.

If I’m a student at Chapman, can I take art classes?

Many of our classes are open to students outside the Art Department, but most are designed for officially declared Art majors and minors. Explore the course catalog or speak with an advisor to see how our programs can support your creative goals.

How do current students apply to be become an Art Major or Minor or switch Majors to the Arts?

If I’m a new 1st Year or Transfer student coming to Chapman, how do I apply or declare Studio Art, Art History or Graphic Design as my Major?

Reach out to the Office of Admissions—they’ll guide you through the process and deadlines.

For current Transfer students, is there a difference in application deadlines?

Nope! Transfer students follow the same deadlines. Check this page for instructions and details.

What if I don’t have any experience in art or design?

No worries! Even if you don’t have formal experience, your application and portfolio are a way to show your love of art and your creativity. Everyone expresses creativity differently—just share your best work and your passion will come through!
