Q & A with Steven P. Ruden (J.D. ’05)
Partner at Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy handling complex patent work on a wide variety of emerging technologies.
How has your education at Chapman helped you succeed in your job?
I received an excellent education in the law and learned critical analysis of statutes, cases, etc. I had my first contact with my current firm through my Patent Law professor at Chapman, who is a senior partner at Knobbe.
What is your advice for current students in order to succeed in their job search?
Network and have a clear idea of what you want to do as a practicing lawyer. If you want to prepare for a patent law career, you should take the patent bar exam while in law school.
