Biography

Phil Weir-Mayta, PhD, CCC-SLP is Assistant Professor, Clinical Instructor, and Director of Clinical Education in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Chapman University. He earned his PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Washington and brings over two decades of clinical and academic experience across medical and university settings. His clinical and teaching interests include neurogenic communication disorders, motor speech disorders, dysphagia, and the integration of evidence-based practice into clinical education.

Dr. Weir-Mayta’s research focuses on speech motor learning, feedback schedules, and neuromodulation approaches such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), with an emphasis on translating motor learning principles into clinical practice. He has authored peer-reviewed publications and presented his work at national and international conferences in speech motor control and clinical education. He is passionate about mentoring graduate clinicians and supporting their development into confident, ethical, and reflective practitioners. As Director of Clinical Education, he collaborates with students and community partners to create high-quality clinical learning experiences that prepare future speech-language pathologists for diverse practice settings.
