
Patrick Zubiate
Biography
Patrick Zubiate is a conductor, teacher and educator with a record of excellence at the elementary, high school, college and adult level. His experience includes various roles including department chair, area head, director, teacher, college professor, administrator and organizational leader.
He is currently Dean of Students at Fairmont Preparatory Academy in Anaheim, CA and former department chair of visual and performing arts.
Professor Zubiate is the former acting Director of University Choirs at Chapman University, where he conducted the University Choir, University Singers and Treble choir. For Chapman, he continues to teach undergraduate choral conducting (I, II).
As a scholarship recipient, he completed coursework toward the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa. There, he conducted Kantorei, the university’s premier ensemble. He also served as Director Music for the Congregational Church (UCC) of Iowa City.
Professor Zubiate was also the conductor and music director for Old Capital Opera and Iowa City Concert Opera. He was the graduate conductor and chorus master of California State University Fullerton Opera Theater, as well as teaching assistant of the Vocalizze Youth Choral Festival in Lisbon, Portugal.
Since 2002, he has been the Director of Music for St. Denis Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, where he has led combined choirs, presented workshops, and served in leadership on various committees.
He has conducted choral masterworks by J.S. Bach, Britten, Brahms, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Saint-Saëns and Vivaldi among others and his choirs have concertized in Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Poland.
As a professional choral musician, he has performed in venues such as the Disney Concert Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Greek Theatre, Segerstrom Hall, Dallas Symphony Hall, Denver Center among others. He has sung for Disney Pictures, Warner Bros., FOX studios and has appeared in several television specials produced for PBS. Recently, he sang on the 2022 GRAMMY© winner for Best Choral Classical Album, with Gustavo Dudamel, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Master Chorale and Pacific Chorale for Deutsche Grammophon.
Prior to education, Prof. Zubiate worked in private enterprise in various management roles, including Division manager for a Minneapolis, MN based company operating locations in Los Angeles and Mexicali, MX.
He is an alumnus of Mater Dei High School, earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance, from Chapman University in Orange County, Ca. He received a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from California State University Fullerton, and is a doctoral candidate at The University of Iowa.
