Biography

Carla Smith, Ph.D., is an Instructional Assistant Professor of School and Clinical Counseling in the Attallah College of Educational Studies. Prior to joining Chapman, Dr. Smith worked at Texas A&M University-San Antonio for three years as a member of the counseling faculty, where she served as the program coordinator for the school counseling program.

Dr. Smith earned her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky. Before transitioning to higher education, she spent 23 years working in public schools in Texas and for the Department of Defense, first as an elementary teacher and later as a professional school counselor. Dr. Smith is also a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in Texas, where she supervises counselor associates working towards full LPC licensure.

Dr. Smith currently serves as an instructor and mentor for both the school counseling and school psychology programs at Chapman. Courses taught include Human Development, Mental Health in the Schools, Responding to Spousal or Partner Abuse, and Supervision and Mentoring in Professional School Counseling.
