Biography

Kirsten Moore-Sheeley received her PhD in the history of medicine, specializing in the history of global health and disease control in Africa. Her research interests include the history of biomedicine and biomedical technologies, disease ecologies, and the intersection of poverty and health. Her first book, Nothing But Nets: A Biography of Global Health Science and Its Objects (JHU Press, 2023) reflects these interests as it explores how and why insecticide-treated bed nets became a main method of malaria control in the 21st century. Her current book project builds from this work to look at the history of malaria vaccine research and other efforts to develop vaccines for 'diseases of poverty'. She teaches courses in the health humanities and environmental studies, with an emphasis on global histories of medicine, science, technology, and the environment.
