Biography

Walter Tschacher joined the languages department as chair and professor of German in 2005. Dr. Tschacher brings 5 years experience as Chair at the University of North Dakota. Last year he served as President of the Faculty Senate at UND. Starting with his dissertation (in German) on comparative studies entitled "A Geography of the Early Enlightenment: London, Leipzig, Zürich," his publications and presentations have analyzed major aspects of 18th Century German Enlightenment, as well as the heritage of Enlightenment in post-1945 German writings. His current work in progress deals with perspectives on the concept of tolerance during the Enlightenment and a textbook for advanced German language courses.
