Biography

Matthew “Bobby” Moser is a Los Angeles-based documentary filmmaker and commercial director working across directing, cinematography and editing.

Raised around the world as the son of a pilot, Moser lived all over the American South, the Caribbean, and Chengdu, China, before settling in Los Angeles a decade ago. He speaks Mandarin Chinese and has made documentary films across the globe.

His films have screened at major festivals including Sundance, Slamdance, Tribeca, IDFA, CPH:DOX and the New Orleans Film Festival. Moser’s directing credits include Last Sermon at George's Creek (The Atlantic). As a cinematographer, he shot Nat Geo's Rebuilding Paradise (dir. Ron Howard) and Plan C (dir. Tracy Tragos), both of which premiered at Sundance. His editing work includes Don't Be a Dick About It (IDFA Audience Award, 2018) and The Last Year of Darkness (Special Jury Prize, CPH:DOX, 2023).

In the commercial space, Moser directs and shoots branded work for companies including Apple, Disney, Samsung, Coca-Cola, FIFA and Neutrogena. His branded film In the Sun, made for Neutrogena, premiered at Tribeca in 2021 and his campaign Samsung: Voices of Life, created with agency Leo Burnett, won a Silver Lion at the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival in 2016. Much of his recent commercial work sits at the intersection of branded content and documentary storytelling.

He is currently working with ESPN on a documentary series about the Chicago Cubs.

Across every project, Moser brings the same lens: a belief that people are what make a story worth telling. He celebrates the moments and subtleties that make life complex and beautiful and holds that your greatest creation is always going to be your life’s story.
