Biography
Justin Berner studies modern and contemporary Spanish culture, analyzing film, literature,
and digital art as a way to explore the interrelations between humans, technology,
and the environment today. In the past few years, he has published articles in Media
and Environment, Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, and Romance Quarterly. He formerly
held academic positions at NYU and NYU Shanghai, and from 2023–2026 he was the Managing
Editor for the Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies. He is currently working on two
projects: a book on contemporary environmental film in the Iberian Peninsula and a
monograph on thermal affects (i.e., feelings of hot and cold) in Spanish culture.
