Biography
A winner of three Emmy Awards, Jason Rosenfield’s resume as film editor, director, producer, writer, and creative consultant also includes an Oscar nomination, a Peabody, DGA and R.F. Kennedy Awards, numerous Emmy nominations and collaborations with directors ranging from Hollywood legend Robert Altman to three-time Oscar-winning documentarian Mark Jonathan Harris.
Rosenfield has served as Associate Director of the American Cinema Editors (ACE) Board, three terms as Governor of the Television Academy and two decades on its Picture Editor and Documentary Peer Group Executive Committees. Highly regarded for his skills with story, character and subtext, Rosenfield is a sought-after creative consultant on independent films and story-driven documentaries, both domestic and international. Alongside his roles as a teacher and producer of professional development seminars for the Television Academy and American Cinema Editors, he continues to mentor a widening international network of emerging screenwriters and filmmakers through Film Independent’s Global Media Makers program, Stowe Story Labs’ screenwriting workshops and the American Film Showcase.
An excerpt from Rosenfield’s craft-based memoir Everything Has Meaning: Confessions of a Film Editor, appeared in the 2021 first quarter issue of ACE’s CinemaEditor. The full memoir will be published in 2026. His essays have been published in industry periodicals CineMontage and CinemaEditor. His most recent essay, Subject to Change, appears in Editing for the Screen, Focal Press/Routledge’s newest edition to the PERFORM bookseries. He is currently at work on his newest book, Story & Subtext: How Great Film Editors Bring Characters to Life.
Rosenfield taught at USC School of Cinematic Arts for 10 years prior to joining Chapman University.
