Biography
Janice Park, DMA, is an assistant professor of music and coordinator of secondary
piano at Chapman University's Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music, where she has taught
since 1995. She teaches Applied Piano, Piano Pedagogy, and Piano Studio classes. In
May 2018, she received The Shaun Naidoo Legacy Award for Outstanding Contributions
to the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music, which is awarded by the students in the conservatory.
Dr. Park has taught Music Theory and Piano Literature classes, and was the pianist for the Treble Choir (previously Women’s Choir) at Chapman. She was also a faculty member at Irvine Valley College for 15 years, and previously taught at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music and was an assistant lecturer at the University of Southern California. She has served on the faculty for the Irvine Music Festival summer program and as a coach for Junior Chamber Music.
Dr. Park is currently vice president and program chair of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) Orange County Branch. She has received numerous academic honors and performance awards. She frequently gives master classes and serves as an adjudicator. Dr. Park was invited to give a master class at the MTAC 2018 State Convention. Dr. Park’s students have received top honors in many festivals and competitions.
Dr. Park has been active in solo, ensemble and collaborative recitals. She was invited multiple times by Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings to perform both chamber and solo music. She was the featured pianist for two separate world-premiere concerts, one locally and one in South America. She also performed in a recital with Thomas Hooten, the principal trumpet of Los Angeles Philharmonic.
A native of South Korea, Dr. Park came to the U.S. to further her musical education after graduating from Seoul Music & Arts High School. She received both master's and Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance degrees from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from Chapman University. Her major teachers included Dr. Joseph Matthews, James Bonn and Antoinette Perry. She is a member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Musical Arts Club of Orange County. She also authored an article “How to Teach Students to Play Softly,” which was published in the journal Keyboard Companion.

Recent Creative, Scholarly Work and Publications
- Collaborated with the Chapman Opera Director, Dr. Marc Callahan, to produce a recording project with works for Baritone and Piano, which were all composed by the Chapman composition faculty.
- Co-directed and performed in the Chapman Alumni Faculty & Staff Showcase Recital at Salmon Recital Hall. The recital took place during the Chapman Parent Spring Summit to showcase for current and prospective students the types of academic careers that our graduates can pursue. This was my passion project, which I started planning pre-pandemic, and with the support of 17 of my alumni colleagues, we finally made it happen in 2024.
- Performed with cello professor, Dr. Yoshika Masuda, the Director of String Studies at Chapman University, at the Music Teachers’ Association of California, Orange County Branch.
