Biography

Chris Dell is an award-winning sports editor and media innovator with more than 20 years of experience at the intersection of major metro newsrooms, tech startups, digital marketing, and now, AI-powered product development. He recently served as the sports editor for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where he led a 30+-person staff to the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) Triple Crown Awards in 2024 and 2025. At the Post-Gazette, he created the newsroom’s first-ever dedicated vertical video team through a partnership with Penn State University's Bellisario College of Communications, which led to more than five million views in the program’s first year and a Top 10 APSE Awards national finish for special event coverage of the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.

Earlier in his career, he reported for The New York Times, where he created and covered the inaugural Brooklyn Nets hyperlocal beat, and the New York Daily News, where he contributed to award-winning investigative coverage of the Biogenesis scandal. He began as an assistant sports editor and reporter at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, a former New York Times-owned publication, and as a deputy sports editor at Yahoo Sports' Rivals.com. Since 2021, he has also served as a recurring on-air analyst for ESPN Radio and Vegas Sports Information Network (VSiN). He is currently the founder of The Fantasy Edge podcast and regularly produces content for subscribers on Substack, X, Discord, and Reddit.

Dell earned his M.A. in Entrepreneurial Journalism from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, where he was a fellow at the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism and The New York Times Student Journalism Institute, and an entrepreneur-in-residence at the Bizdom startup accelerator (2014-2015).

A first-generation Colombian American, Dell was the founding president of CUNY's chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) and a 2013 NAHJ George Ramos fellow. He has taught, lectured, and mentored students at Penn State University's John Curley Center for Sports Journalism, The City College of New York, Ohio University's Scripps College of Communication, the University of Texas at El Paso, and Notre Dame College.
