Biography

Alex Robinson is a vocalist, pianist, composer, arranger, and music educator. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Studio Music and Jazz with a concentration in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami.

In addition to her work at Chapman, Alex teaches jazz voice at Mt. San Antonio College, serves as a conductor for Los Robles Children's Choir, and maintains her own private studio. With a keen interest in the connection between mental health and vocal function, she is passionate about helping her students develop a healthy, joyful relationship with their craft.

Alex performs throughout Southern California with her own project, as a guest artist, and as a choral artist in professional choirs Tonality and Choral Arts Initiative. She has been featured at the Festival of Arts (Laguna Beach, CA), Stanford Jazz Festival (Stanford, CA), and Jazz Roots at the Adrienne Arsht Center (Miami, FL). In 2022, Alex was an inaugural cast member of Disney Cruise Line's newest ship, the Disney Wish. During her time working for The Walt Disney Company, she curated solo piano/vocal sets as well as performances with a full rhythm section in a variety of genres, from jazz to pop to country and beyond. She was a featured performer in two all-new stage productions, Victrophonics and Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party, which included musicians performing live to fireworks for the first time in DCL history.

Off the stage, Alex’s credits as a session vocalist include Carole King and composer Carla Patullo’s GRAMMY-winning album So She Howls. Her work as a vocal arranger has been featured at the New York Voices’ annual vocal jazz camp, and in Kerry Marsh’s Independent Arrangers' Reading Session for the Jazz Education Network.
