Peer Advising

Peer advisors are a great resource if you want info about the student experience from a current Fowler student. Peer advisors can talk with you about:

  • The student experience as a Chapman engineering student.
  • Your major.
  • Preparation for registration.
  • Navigating the engineering classes you plan on taking.
  • Developing a four-year academic plan.
  • Academic pathways you might want to pursue, like second majors, minors or advanced degrees.
  • What the instructors are like, and their teaching styles.
  • Where you can go for resources and support on campus.

If you’d like to talk with a Peer Advisor, you can get in touch with one and make an appointment by asking about Peer Advising in Slack. They also host weekly walk-in hours and post availabilty in Slack.

“As a first-generation student, it was not always easy navigating the college environment. Many people have helped me along the way, including previous Peer Advisor. So, when it was my time, I wanted to be the comforting reassurance my peers needed.”

Academic Advising Night

We hold Academic Advising Nights once per semester. These in-person group advising sessions are hosted by Chapman engineering staff and faculty who can answer questions about:

  • Registration.
  • Engineering classes required for your major and the differences between them.
  • Class schedules.
  • Four-year plans that will help you stay on track to graduate on time.
  • And more.

Registration is required to attend. To register for the next Academic Advising Night, see our events calendar below. (If there are no events below, the next session has not been scheduled yet.)

A note for parents — our partners in your student’s success

All Fowler Engineering advisors and faculty can work with your student to help create the best possible academic experience based on their interests and goals.

We hope you will also support your student’s success by helping ensure they graduate on time and get the most out of their college experience. However, please keep in mind:

  • It is important that students learn and feel comfortable to self-advocate. If they have questions or concerns, please encourage them to reach out themselves for assistance.
  • Additionally, when students enter college, their academic information is protected under The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This prevents staff and faculty from discussing anything specific about your student unless they are present and give us explicit permission to do so.
