For our current Transfer students, if you join Chapman University with at least 60 credits, you may apply to add a Minor after one semester at Chapman University; otherwise, you must wait to apply after two semesters.

Art History: No Deadline
If you wish to declare an Art History Major or Minor, you are first required to speak with one of our fulltime Art History faculty to discuss the requirements and expectations. Please reach out to Professors Wendy Salmond (salmond@chapman.edu) Justin Walsh (jstpwalsh@chapman.edu) or, Amy Buono (buono@chapman.edu).
If you decide to move forward to officially declare Art History as a Minor or Major, please complete a Change of Major eForm. Once this form is received by the Department of Art, they will submit it on your behalf to the Registrar’s Office for processing. Important: Change of Major or Minor E-forms are not processed during class registration periods. Please check the Registrar’s webpage for deadlines and plan ahead so your requests are reviewed and processed promptly.
Graphic Design: Applications can be sent in at any time but, if you submit before March 1, this is for a Fall semester entry & if you apply before October 1, this is for a Spring semester entry. You are first required to speak with either Associate Professor Eric Chimenti (chimenti@chapman.edu) or Professor Claudine Jaenichen (jaeniche@chapman.edu), our fulltime Graphic Design faculty to discuss the requirements and expectations, please contact them directly via email for an appointment. If you decide to move forward and officially declare Graphic Design as a Minor or Major, submit the following materials in one PDF file (max 20MB) via email to randazzo@chapman.edu. The review process takes up to 7 business days and you will be contacted via email of the decision.
Statement of Interest: Write a statement of interest outlining relevant experiences, achievements, and what you hope to achieve through pursuing a degree in design. Additionally, discuss any specific areas of design that particularly interest you and how you believe that will impact the future of society and our planet as a whole. Reflect on how you will become that designer and how you believe that your skills, ambitions and responsibility as a design student can contribute to the growth of our program. (max 500 words)
Influence: Describe a research design project, body of work, or creative person, agency, or organization that you are influenced by? What is impactful about the work and how has the methodologies, body of work, and impact influenced your decision to be a designer? (max 500 words)
Media: Provide 8-10 pieces from your portfolio that you feel best demonstrates your talents and creative scholarship. We accept diverse mediums that represents your best body of work including design, drawing, photography, design research case study or capstone projects, painting, ceramics, sculpture, or video. In addition to traditional media, we invite submissions that exemplify your exploration at the nexus of design and technology. This includes, but is not limited to, digital installations, interactive devices, and wearable technology that demonstrate innovation and a hands-on approach to design, prototyping, testing, and fabrication.
Statement of Two Most Successful Work in your portfolio: Choose the two most-successful works in your portfolio and explain what makes them the most significant, including how the formal elements, research, and process of the work supports the meaning of the final project. (max 500 words)
Letter of Recommendation: Submit a signed letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor that can speak to your creative talents and merits as a creative scholar and student.

Studio Art: Application can be sent Monday, February 12, 2024 through May 3, 2024. Students currently enrolled or have completed an art class at Chapman University, are welcome to apply to Minor or Major in Studio Art. Statement of Interest: Write a statement (500-word essay) telling us about your interest in contemporary art, which artist or movements you are most excited by, and what media and materials you wish to explore in our program.
Statement of Two Most Successful Work in your portfolio: Write a statement (500-word essay) about two of your best works and why you consider these your best works.
Media: Provide 7 images of your artwork for the Art Minor application and or, 10 images for the Art Major application. Please identify the title, media, and size of work and combine it all into one PDF.
