Develop Your Voice as an Artist

The BFA in Studio Art immerses you in a rigorous studio education grounded in both traditional and contemporary practices. You build strong technical skills and visual literacy through foundational courses, then move into interdisciplinary studio work that encourages experimentation, exploration, and critical thinking. Along the way, you study art history and theory, develop professional practices, and participate in exhibitions—experiences that help you grow as an artist and prepare you for a professional career or graduate study.

I chose Chapman because I was drawn by the academic rigor and small class sizes. The teaching was incredibly personal, and the curriculum balanced both theory and technical skills, which gave me a strong foundation in my practice. I especially enjoyed courses like Senior Seminar and Contemporary Gallery Practices, which prepared me for real-world experiences. I secured an internship at a gallery, which ultimately inspired me to open a gallery of my own. The close-knit community allowed me to form deeper relationships with professors and classmates than I could have experienced elsewhere, and many of those friendships remain lifelong. The program not only strengthened my artistic abilities but also helped me become a better communicator and critical thinker about art. I would highly recommend this program to anyone seeking a supportive environment and meaningful connections with both peers and faculty.
