Perishable food and grocery delivery
The information in this section is provided by University Services, which oversees all mail and package services.
Food Delivery Protocol:
When residents order food from restaurants, or delivery services like DoorDash, Grubhub, or UberEats, they should be contacted by the driver to meet and receive their food items. The drivers should not access resident-only spaces in Chapman Housing. Residents should meet drivers outside of their buildings to maintain a safe and secure environment for all residents. Additionally, orders like this should never be delivered to University Services, as they will be refused.
Grocery and Perishable Food Delivery Protocol:
To provide the best mail and package service, University Services asks residents to plan their grocery and perishable food order deliveries so that there is enough time to deliver orders to their respective student mail center.
Orders should be placed by 1 p.m., on Monday through Thursday, so that orders arrive to University Services before 3 p.m. This gives University Services enough time to deliver the items to a student mail center and gives residents enough time to pick it up before the student mail centers close at 5 p.m.
Do not place grocery delivery orders on weekends because there will not be anyone to receive them at University Services. Additionally, perishable food will be thrown away after 72 hours – especially if groceries are emitting foul odors or leaking.
The ideal windows of time for ordering perishable food or grocery deliveries are:
- Monday–Thursday between 8 a.m. –12 p.m. and 1 p.m.–3 p.m.
Additionally, ordering grocery delivery on Friday afternoons is challenging because if items arrive too late to be processed, residents will have to wait for the delivery to be processed and dropped off on Monday (the next business day).
Large Orders:
Large orders or "oversize" orders (as listed by the delivery company) will need to be picked up from University Service’s main office at: 625 W Palm Ave. Orange, CA 92968. University Services recommends residents use a car when picking up "oversize" orders.
For questions or information concerning Chapman University Mail Services please call (714) 997-6821.

Cleanliness tips and expectations
Students should incorporate cleanliness habits into their daily routine. By doing so, they'll create a more pleasant and healthy living space for themselves, their roommates, and others in the community. Here are some cleanliness suggestions and tips for students to maintain a clean and healthy living space:
-
Regular Cleaning Routine: Establish a weekly or bi-weekly cleaning schedule to keep your room tidy. Dedicate specific days or hours to this task. If you have roommates, create a cleaning schedule so everyone does their fair share of maintaining the cleanliness of the space.
-
Declutter: Keep your space organized by regularly decluttering. Donate or discard items you no longer need.
-
Use Cleaning Supplies: Stock up on basic cleaning supplies like a broom, mop, vacuum cleaner, disinfectant wipes, and trash bags. Recommended Cleaning supplies for the room and bathroom, include:
- Soap
- Sponges
- All-purpose scrubber
- All-purpose cleaner
- Glass cleaner
- Microfiber towels
- Toilet bowl cleaner and scrubber
- Air freshener
-
Make Your Bed: Start your day with a tidy room by making your bed each morning.
-
Dust and Vacuum: Regularly dust and vacuum to remove dust, dirt, and allergens from your room.
-
Laundry Routine: Keep up with your laundry to prevent dirty clothes from piling up. Designate a day out of the week to clean and fold your laundry.
-
Trash Management: Empty your trash bins frequently to avoid unpleasant odors and pests. Please take all trash to the trash rooms in your community. If the trash rooms are full, please contact your RA.
-
Kitchen and Dishes: Clean up after yourself in shared kitchen spaces, and wash your dishes promptly. Put away the dishes after washing them to declutter your kitchen space.
-
Personal Hygiene: Maintain good personal hygiene to prevent odors and the spread of germs in your living space.
-
Bathroom Cleanliness: If you have a shared bathroom, clean up after yourself and communicate with roommates about bathroom cleaning responsibilities. Be sure to regularly wipe down the counters with disinfectant cleaning supplies, thoroughly clean the shower, and scrub the toilet.
-
Use Storage Solutions: Invest in storage solutions like shelves, bins, and under-bed storage to keep your belongings organized.
-
Ventilation: Open windows periodically to let in fresh air and prevent a stuffy environment. If you are unable to open a window, then it's recommended that you purchase an air purifier that meets California air cleaner regulations.
-
Respect Shared Spaces: Be considerate of common areas, such as lounges and study rooms, by cleaning up after yourself and putting furniture back where it belongs.
-
Roommates Communication: Communicate with your roommates about shared cleaning expectations to maintain a harmonious living environment.
-
Prevent Microbial Growth: To prevent microbial growth, regularly wipe down surfaces, disinfect your space, keep bathroom and kitchen spaces dry, and report any leaks or potential microbial growth issues to facilities and Residence Life and First Year Experience staff members.
Living with roommates
Important roommate discussions
- Smoking/alcohol/drug use: the Student Conduct Code prohibits students and guests from smoking, storing or consuming alcohol (unless students are 21+), and possessing, manufacturing, distributing, using, or selling drugs in the residence halls and apartments. Nevertheless, roommates should discuss these issues and establish rules so that all are comfortable in the room.
- Night owls and early birds: the times that roommates retire for the night and wake up in the morning can become a source of tension and difficulty. Roommates should communicate about their sleeping habits so that everyone is reasonably accommodated.
- Visitation/Guests: it is important to discuss your guest policy at the beginning of the year. In addition to the guidelines given in the Student Conduct Code, you and your roommate(s) should discuss the acceptable duration and frequency of visits, especially as it relates to guests of another gender.
- Study habits: Talk about when and where you like to study, acceptable noise levels, and other issues regarding your studying environment. The residence halls should be a place where all residents feel comfortable studying.
- Bathroom schedule: Do you prefer to shower in the morning, evening, or late at night? Do you use devices that make excessive noise, such as a hair dryer or electric razor? These issues should be addressed to establish a situation that works for all roommates.
- Cleanliness: Do you need to have a clean room before you feel that you can be productive? Do you have to wait until Health and Safety Inspections to feel motivated to clean? Cleaning habits have a tremendous effect on how comfortable residents feel in their room!
- Common property: Would it disturb you to find out that one of your roommates was listening to your music, watching your TV, using your computer? Does it bother you when someone else borrows your clothing without your permission? Your roommate may not feel the same way, so it is important to establish explicit guidelines regarding shared property.
Roommate Assignment Change process
There are many reasons a student may want to change their room assignment. While not all such requests are rooted in roommate conflict, we understand that these requests are often the result of a disagreement over living preferences. View the Roommate Assignment Change Process document works and how to request a room assignment change.
