»Interprofessional Education
At Chapman University, Interprofessional Education (IPE) is a structured and purposeful part of the curriculum that gives students the chance to learn with, from, and about each other. IPEs help students understand their future role as a pharmacist, physical therapist, or other healthcare provider, as well as others’ roles, and work more effectively as part of a team. The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) outlines four core competencies that guide this work:
- Values and ethics
- Roles and responsibilities
- Communication
- Teams and teamwork
These competencies are the foundation of coursework, simulations, and clinical experiences. Students become practice-ready to collaborate across disciplines and contribute to better care for the patients and communities they’ll serve.

Fully Integrated IPE Model
Through a series of three 500-level IPE courses, co-curricular activities, and integration
of didactic coursework, students engage with IPE concepts and learning outcomes on
a consistent basis.
IPE experiences take place both in unique or nontraditional settings, as well as core
learning environments. This intentional design allows students to build the confidence
needed to perform in team-based, real-world collaborative health settings.
Our innovative model ensures that IPE is a key component to becoming practice-ready
pharmacists.

External Partners
IPEs allow students to collaborate with health care students from other institutions and disciplines not offered at Chapman University. Through these partnerships, students gain experience in diverse medical learning environments and develop critical skills in team-based care. Our partners include:
- UCI School of Medicine
- UCI School of Nursing
- CalState University, Fullerton School of Nursing
- Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine
Evaluation
As an accredited institution, Chapman University leverages our academic independence
to ensure student growth across the four nationally recognized IPE competencies. Our
commitment to consistent improvement is supported by ongoing student evaluation and
evidence-based quality enhancement.
Students are assessed at multiple points, including prior to and following the 500-level
IPE course series, as well as near the end of their clinical rotations. These track
growth and effectiveness throughout their time at Chapman University.
We utilize one of the most highly regarded evaluation tools, endorsed by the National
Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education, to improve student competencies.
