»Health and Behavioral Sciences Internships

For Crean College students, internships offer hands-on experience that connects classroom learning to real-world applications in healthcare, mental health, and behavioral sciences.

You might work alongside medical professionals in clinical settings, assist with psychological research, or support community health initiatives that make a meaningful impact.

Whatever your area of interest, this page will help you explore, search, and plan for internships that align with your academic and career goals.

“Building relationships with my advisors helped me secure internships that provided real-world experience. During my senior year, I was an HR Intern at the OC Sanitation Department, where I learned that I thrive in recruitment the most. The internship taught me what it’s like to source and recruit candidates through a government agency lens, and I’ve brought those learned skills into all my future roles since.”

Getting started

Crean College students typically intern with major hospitals, clinics, non-profits, and businesses throughout the healthcare industry.

As a Crean College student, you can do an internship as early as your second semester, but feel free to start your search as early as you’d like!Student and career advisor

You can start your search process by booking an appointment with Crean’s Career Advisor.

During your appointment, you will be able to discuss unique internship opportunities available to Chapman/Crean College students.

International internships

International internships can provide you with valuable networking opportunities and experiences that enhance your resume, all while offering a global perspective on the healthcare industry.

Chapman faculty occasionally lead programs that allow select students to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings around the globe.

With that said, be sure to connect with your Crean College professors to learn more about these opportunities and how to get involved.

Applying to internships

Once you’ve had an appointment with Crean’s Career Advisor and have explored your options, the next step is to market yourself to companies of interest and submit your resume and other necessary materials.

When you should apply

Most organizations seek candidates to fill an immediate opening. This typically means you should be applying the semester before the anticipated start date.

Where to find internship opportunities

You can find internship opportunities in many different ways, such as:

"With my mentors' encouragement, I stepped out of my comfort zone to pursue summer research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Learning new lab techniques, building connections, and growing confident in my abilities was incredibly rewarding. I presented my research and won a Poster of Distinction award, which reinforced the value of embracing new opportunities with an open mind."

You can also find an internship through your own personal network! Consider the following strategies:

  • Contact faculty mentors. They can help you explore internship options and research opportunities that are related to your major.
  • Connect with Chapman alumni for internship opportunities or advice using The Panther Network or LinkedIn.
  • Follow up with past employers, contacts or recruiters with whom you have previously interacted for potential opportunities they know of.
