» Institutional Awards

We’re committed to making a Chapman education accessible to all high-potential domestic, international and undocumented students. Institutional awards, which do not need to be repaid, help make that possible.

These awards are determined by information you and your family provide, the number of applicants and total funds available. Last year, we provided:

  • Nearly $177 million to our students, with more than 80% of undergraduates receiving some form of aid.
  • An average award of more than $31,600 per undergraduate student.

Most awards do not require a separate application outside of your application to Chapman. More information on award types and individual awards are below. Award notifications will include specific details on amount, duration and renewal requirements.

Merit Scholarships

Merit scholarships recognize achievement in high school and are based on academics, rigor in curriculum, quality of application, and test scores (if provided). Eligibility for transfer students is based on their previous college GPA. Scholarships range in amount, but can be as high as $40,000 per year.

  • If you apply by the admission deadline, you will be automatically considered for a merit scholarship.
  • If awarded, merit scholarship information will be included with your offer of admission.
  • Merit scholarships are awarded for eight semesters to new first-year students.
  • The scholarship time limit for transfer students varies depending at which grade level the student enrolls.

Talent/Departmental Awards

Talent and department awards are determined on an individual basis by academic and university departments. In most cases, they are based on materials in your Chapman application and can be combined with other institutional awards:
