The Cross-Cultural Center serves as a welcoming and secure haven on Chapman’s campus where students can socialize, study, and participate in diversity-related programming.
Centrally located in Argyros Forum, the CCC is accessible to all students to help enhance their sense of belonging within the community.
This timeline showcases the creation and continuing evolution of the Cross-Cultural Center.
Spring 2015
Decades before the Center was built, students, staff, and faculty advocated for a place where students from under-represented groups could feel affirmed and supported.
In 2015, the Dean of Students Office proposed creating a cross-cultural center. The proposal advocated for a space for student organizations to hold meetings and activities and for students to gather informally to relax and build connections.
February 2017
With input from various student organizations, the Department of Student Engagement, and President Emeritus Jim Doti, the Cross-Cultural Center officially opened on February 27, 2017.
The Center’s grand opening included a ceremony shaped by personal reflections, dance, and even tears.
2017 - today
Since it opened, the Cross-Cultural Center has been the home of all student identity-based programming for the Chapman community.
The CCC allows students to:
- Explore their own identities.
- Build empathy and allyship skills.
- Understand the positive influence of a diverse campus.
- Connect to the Chapman community.
As the Center continues to evolve, we invite you to get involved in our events and activities and use the space throughout your time at Chapman.
