Chapman University I Attallah College of Educational Studies
As a Chapman Liberal Studies student, you can complete your teacher preparation coursework and student teaching before you graduate, allowing you to enter the classroom as a fully credentialed teacher and begin your career sooner.
Choose from two options:
-
Elementary Education Teacher Preparation Certificate – for those pursuing elementary teaching.
-
Special Education Teacher Preparation Certificate – for those interested in special education settings.
Both certificates integrate seamlessly with the Liberal Studies major and Elementary Education minor, fulfilling California’s subject matter requirements (no CBEST or CSET exams required).
Why Earn a Teacher Preparation Certificate?
-
Complete your teacher credential and student teaching as an undergraduate.
-
Begin your teaching career right after graduation.
-
Start your master’s degree while already working full time.
How to Get Started
Step 1: Major in Liberal Studies – designed for aspiring elementary and special education teachers.
Step 2: Add the Elementary Education minor. (Required for both certificates.)
Step 3: Notify the Attallah Academic Advisor to enroll in your chosen certificate program.
Step 4: Take your credential courses during junior and senior years, including student teaching.
By graduation, you’ll have:
-
A B.A. in Liberal Studies

You’ll then be eligible to submit your Chapman transcript and state requirements to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and begin your career as a full-time teacher.
