RESEARCH/TEACHING INTERESTS

Dr. Soangra is an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy and Director of Gait Rehabilitation Research Laboratory in Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences. He is also an affiliate faculty at Fowler School of Engineering. Dr. Soangra’s research interests are focused on applying engineering solutions in improving the overall quality of life of patients with neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders and by understanding the specific mechanisms that result in their mobility and motor control limitations. He utilizes engineering tools and techniques for developing novel rehabilitation strategies that target patient movement limitations. His laboratory utilizes wearable sensors, Gait Realtime Analysis and Interactive Lab (GRAIL), biomedical signal processing techniques, time series analysis, machine learning, human factors research design, iOS and Android app programming for patient assessment, Virtual Reality programming for targeted rehab environment and also utilizes engineering software like MATLAB, AutoCAD and LabView. Dr. Soangra brings a blend of industrial and academic experience to mentor and teach students. Dr. Soangra teaches Biomechanics of Human Movement at the graduate level and has mentored several students at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral-level in their research projects. The students have published their research work in international conferences and have established their careers in Panasonic, Altair and other multinational companies.
