»Studio Reservation Form

We are pleased to offer Dance Majors, Minors, and faculty access to the studios and classrooms outside of class and concert times, as well as on weekends. We ask everyone to adhere to Chapman University’s health and safety policy and follow the policies regarding the use of rooms and equipment as stated within theStudent Organizations Policies and Procedures and the Dance Student Handbook found on the Dance Student Body CANVAS page. We reserve the right to decline any and all reservation requests due to department or college needs.

If you are not a Dance Major, Minor, or Dance faculty, please email dance@chapman.edu, with a proposal requesting a studio. All requests will be reviewed within 10 business days.

All reservations must be submitted a minimum of 5 days in advance and in no more than 90 minute time slots.Without these two conditions being fulfilled, requests will be automatically declined, so be sure to plan ahead (Example: If you want a space for January 10, you must submit the request by January 5). This allows us time to process the request and send an official email to you. Please do not email the department office to request a space—follow the 25Live process.

Spaces can be booked only between 8:00am and 10:00pm. If multiple students are attending a reservation, the person requesting the space must include all student names on the form and clearly state the purpose of the reservation (Example: Class assignment, club rehearsal, audition, masterclass, etc.). Without all of this information, your request will be automatically denied.

Students and faculty cannot enter and use a space because it is empty. Anyone found using spaces without reservations will be asked to leave. There are reasons why spaces are empty, including inspections or maintenance. Everyone is responsible for leaving the studios, classrooms, and common areas clean, tidy, and organized, ready for the next appointment or class. This includes returning the barres and pianos to their locations, reconnecting music equipment/cords in the media tower, wiping up spills, and taking your belongings with you. No food or drink (except water) is ever allowed in the studios or classrooms.

Studios and classrooms automatically lock at 10:00pm, not 10:01pm or 10:10pm. You are expected to leave by 10:00pm, no exceptions. Our custodians begin cleaning the building and studios at 10:00pm, so please be thoughtful and respectful of their time. Before dancing, please check your shoes are clean and free of any sharp edges, which can damage the flooring. No outside shoes can be worn in the studios at any time.

There will be times during the academic year when Sandi Simon Center for Dance spaces are “blacked out” for university and department events. If this occurs, select another date(s). If you no longer need a space, please email Jeanie Randazzo (randazzo@chapman.edu) and Events Operations (eventoperations@chapman.edu). Include the reference number (example: 2025-ABSFPM) and inform us that your reservation is to be canceled. By doing this, the studio will no longer be reserved and will allow others to book it.

If your reservation is approved, you will receive an official confirmation email titled (as an example) “Event Confirmation: Jeanie Randazzo — Choreo II Assignment (2025-ABSGAB)”. If your request is declined, the email will be titled (as an example) “Canceled: Jeanie Randazzo — Choreo Prep (2025-ABSFTD)”. All declined requests will include a comment on why that decision was made. These official emails are typically sent within 5 business days and come from Events Operations, not the Department of Dance, so please be patient.

Dance studios and flooring have specific limitations for use:

  1. Performance Studio 001 - dance majors only
  2. Tap Studio 002 - Tap shoes, heels, ballroom approved in this space
  3. Studio 101 - NO heels or street shoes allowed
  4. Studio 102 - NO heels or street shoes allowed
  5. Studio 103 - NO heels or street shoes allowed
  6. Studio 104 - heels or hip-hop street shoes approved in this space
