Sandi Simon Center for Dance first floor
Room Reservations

»Dance Reservation Form

Dance is pleased to offer students and faculty access to the studios and classrooms outside of class and concert times, as well as on weekends. We ask everyone to adhere to Chapman University’s health and safety policy and follow the policies regarding the use of rooms and equipment as stated within the Student Organizations Policies and Procedures and the Dance Student Handbook found on the Dance Student Body CANVAS page. We reserve the right to decline any and all reservation requests due to department or college needs.

All reservations must be submitted a minimum of 5 days in advance, no exceptions. All requests must be submitted in 90-minute time slots (an hour and a half)—all requests greater than 90 minutes will be automatically declined. Reservations are reviewed & processed within 5 days, so be sure to plan ahead! Spaces can be booked starting at 8:00am and must end at 10:00pm. If there are multiple students using the same reservation, the person requesting the space must include all student names on the form. Clearly state the form of dance, type of footwear (socks, heels, barefoot), and the purpose of the reservation (such as class assignment, club rehearsal, audition, masterclass). Without this information, your request will be denied.

Students and faculty cannot enter and use a space because they see it empty. There are reasons why spaces are empty, including inspections or maintenance. Anyone found using spaces without reservations will be asked to leave. Everyone is responsible for leaving the studios, classrooms, and common shared areas clean, tidy, organized, and ready for the next appointment or class. This includes returning the barres and pianos to their locations, reconnecting music equipment/cords in the media tower, wiping up spills, and taking trash with you.

All studios and classrooms automatically lock at 10:00pm, not 10:01pm or 10:10pm. You are expected to leave by 10:00pm, no exceptions. Our Custodians (Aramark) begin cleaning the building and studios at 10:00pm, so be thoughtful and respectful of their time. Before dancing, please check your shoes are clean and free of any sharp edges which can damage the flooring. No outside shoes can be worn in the studios at any time!

NEW AND IMPORTANT: Reservations need to be made at least 5 days before the date you want. Example: If you want a space for January 10, you must submit the request by January 5. This gives us time to process the request and for an official email to be sent to you. Even though the system blocks requests 3 days before the date, please plan 5 days ahead of time. Please do not send an email to the office asking for a space—follow the 25Live process.

There will be times during the academic year that Sandi Simon spaces are “blacked out” for university and department events. When you’re searching and see dates blacked out, please select other dates if you need a studio. However, if there’s zero flexibility to change a date or a space is needed urgently, please talk with one of our 8 x Student Workers who are scheduled Monday through Friday in the Faculty Lounge. They can check the studio availability and help with reservations.

Please notify Jeanie Randazzo (randazzo@chapman.edu) if you no longer need a space so we can free it up for other requests. You must also email Events Operations (eventoperations@chapman.edu) of your cancellation and include the reference number (example: 2025-ABSFPM), the name of the person who submitted the 25Live request, studio/space number, day(s), and times. This is your responsibility to do.

You will receive an official confirmation email titled (as an example) “Event Confirmation: Jeanie Randazzo — Choreo II Assignment (2025-ABSGAB)” if your request is approved. If declined, the email will be titled (as an example) “Cancelled: Jeanie Randazzo — Choreo Prep (2025-ABSFTD)”. The declined requests will explain why that decision was made. These official emails are typically sent within 5 business days and come from Events Operations, not the Department of Dance.
