Next Steps Ahead: Supporting Students with Disabilities Transition to Higher Education
Since the summer of 2023, Disability Services has facilitated an Early Orientation program (now called Next Steps Ahead!) to support students with disabilities transition to Chapman and help students acclimate and adjust to campus.
Students with disabilities often arrive to college with unique needs and circumstances that make the transition more challenging. Next Steps Ahead was developed to address and support these needs and is designed with students on the Autism Spectrum in mind! Before classes begin, students are able to acclimate to campus, connect with disability services and other supportive campus staff, and learn how to take proactive steps to support themselves as they transition to higher education!
This three day program includes:
- Early move-in to your residence hall
- An in-depth explanation of Randall Dining Hall (where to swipe in, allergy friendly stations, grab-and-go stations…)
- Personalized class schedule tours
- Introduction to campus partners (the Tutoring Learning Center, Library Services and more!)
- And most importantly connecting with other students (including students with disabilities) before classes begin!
Program Details:
Sunday, August 16th: early move-in
Monday, August 17th: activities and programming provided by Disability Services (breaks included)
Tuesday, August 18th (8:30am-12:00pm): optional activities and programming provided by Disability Services.
