» Proxy Borrowers in the Leatherby Libraries

General Guidelines

Proxy Borrowers in the Leatherby Libraries are departmental employees, research, graduate, or student assistants that a faculty member authorizes to conduct library business on their behalf. Faculty may designate a proxy borrower by filling out and submitting this form.

Faculty may designate a proxy borrower to do all of the following processes, in person, at the Circulation Desk:

  • Access your library account
  • Check out items
  • Check out your interlibrary loan items
  • Renew your items
  • Place/cancel your holds
  • Place/remove items from your course reserve
  • Change checkout times for items on your course reserve

Once authorized, your assistant will be able to do the tasks listed above; the Library will not monitor the activities of an authorized proxy borrower. A note will be added to the patron record of an authorized user stating that he or she has proxy library privileges for your library account through the end of the current academic year.

After that date, a new form will need to be completed, signed, and submitted for reinstatement of the proxy borrower privileges. A proxy borrower must present his or her own Chapman ID card for all proxy transactions.

  • Do not give your Chapman ID card to your proxy borrower.
  • Do not ask your proxy borrower to check library items out for you using his or her own library account.

As the library card holder you are responsible for all activity on your account.

How to Authorize a Proxy Borrower

To authorize a proxy borrower, faculty may fill in the electronic submission form located below. A separate form must be submitted for each designated assistant. Faculty will receive an email confirmation once the proxy borrowing privileges have been established. For any questions regarding proxy privileges, please contact the Circulation Department at (714) 532-7723.
