» Proxy Borrowers in the Leatherby Libraries

General Guidelines

Proxy Borrowers in the Leatherby Libraries are departmental employees, research, graduate, or student assistants that you authorize to conduct library business on your behalf. You must designate a proxy borrower by filling out and submitting this form.

You designate a proxy borrower to do all of the following processes, in person, at the Circulation Desk:

  • Access your library account
  • Check out items (books, CD’s, DVD’s, videos, reference, reserves, special collection, etc.)
  • Check out your interlibrary loan books
  • Renew your items
  • Place/cancel your holds
  • Place/remove items from your course reserve
  • Change checkout times for items on your course reserve
  • Place Interlibrary Loan requests on your behalf. Please note, a separate proxy ILL account will need to be created. Contact the Interlibrary Loan Department at ill@chapman.edu or (714) 532-6025 to setup a proxy ILL account.

Once authorized, your assistant will be able to do the tasks listed above; the Library will not monitor the activities of an authorized proxy user. We will add a note to the patron record of an authorized user stating that he or she has proxy library privileges for your library account through a set expiration date.

After that date, a new form will need to be completed, signed and submitted for reinstatement of the proxy borrower privileges. Your proxy user must present their Chapman ID card for all proxy transactions. Do not give your Chapman ID card to your proxy borrower. Please do not ask your assistants to check library items out for you using their own library accounts.

As the library card holder you are responsible for all activity on your account.

How to Authorize a Proxy Borrower

To authorize a proxy borrower, fill in the form below, sign and submit it to the Leatherby Libraries Circulation desk.  A separate form must be submitted for each proxy user.  Electronic submission forms must be submitted using your Chapman email address.  You will receive an email confirmation once the proxy borrowing privileges have been established.  For any questions regarding proxy privileges, please contact the Circulation Department at (714) 532-7723.
