In what areas does Chapman offer University Intern Credentials?
Chapman offers a Single Subject Intern Credential in the areas of English, Social
Science, Math, and Science and an Education Specialist Intern Credential in the areas
of Mild to Moderate (Mild to Moderate Support Needs) and Moderate to Severe (Extensive
Support Needs).
When are teacher candidates eligible to become University Interns?
To be intern eligible, teacher candidates must have successfully completed all prerequisite
coursework, submit all required credential documents, and have met a minimum of 120
fieldwork hours by the end of the semester prior to student teaching.
As a University Intern, teacher candidates must maintain district/site employment,
maintain continuous enrollment in required credential coursework for the duration
of the internship, and maintain good standing in the credential program and university.
Will Chapman and/or Attallah College secure me a University Intern position?
No, Chapman does not secure intern positions/employment on its candidate's behalf. Teacher
candidates must apply for and receive an offer from a public school district or school
site in which Chapman has an approved Internship Agreement on file. It is the teacher
candidate's responsibility to obtain and maintain their position employment/position
within their district and school site. The Attallah College Teacher Education team
will provide teacher candidates with the documents needed to be recommended for an
intern credential, once a teacher candidate notifies them they have been offered a
position.

Can I secure University Intern positions for more than one teaching credential?
No, teacher candidates may only serve as a University Intern to fulfill the requirements
for one teaching credential. University Interns may only complete the requirements
for a Single Subject Credential (in the areas of English, Social Science, Math, or
Science), a Mild/Moderate (Mild to Moderate Support Needs) Education Specialist Credential,
or a Moderate/Severe (Extensive Support Needs) Education Specialist Credential.
Can the credential I earn at Chapman be used to practice/work in any state other than
California?
Chapman University offers degree programs that lead to professional licensure within
the state of California, and which may also allow graduates to be eligible for licensure
or certification in other states. However, other than for the state of California,
Chapman has not made an independent determination as to whether its programs’ curriculum
meets a particular state's educational requirements for licensure or certification.
Therefore, students and prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact the
state’s licensure entity where they intend to practice to review all licensure and
certification requirements imposed by the state(s) of their choice. Chapman is not
responsible if a student is unable to qualify for state licensure or certification.
