Preparing for your Live Audition

On-campus (In-person) Live Auditions

On-campus auditions will take place on the Chapman University campus in Orange, CA. They will begin with a brief orientation and Q&A to introduce you to faculty and peers. Parents are welcome to join for this portion.

You will then have a group warm-up and next will perform your two one-minute monologues, previously demonstrated in your pre-screen audition. Similarly, be ready for improvisation and simple scripted material work that will be provided at the audition.

You will also have the option to attend a 1-hour department facilities tour from 12-1 p.m. Family members are welcome to attend with you. You can add this to your audition schedule when registering your Live Audition.

During your visit, if you or your family may have downtime. You can:

Regional (In-person) Live Auditions

Regional auditions will take place in select cities on around the country. These auditions will be much briefer than in-person, on-campus auditions but will offer a one-on-one opportunity to connect with a faculty member.

  • Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled audition to allow for parking and arrival. If we're unable to host your audition during your scheduled time, we might not be able to meet with you.
  • A few days prior to your live audition we will email you more detailed instructions on where to go once you arrive and who you'll be meeting with.

Virtual Live Auditions

The virtual live auditions will take place via Zoom. Please be available for the full session.

The session will begin with a 30-minute information session with the department chair. Parents are welcome to join for this portion. You will then join a faculty member in a Zoom breakout room where you will share your monologues. This will be approximately 10 minutes.

Some guidelines for framing during your Zoom call:

  • Set up your camera to allow for a 3/4 body shot.
  • Use a distraction-free background with adequate lighting and audio. We need to see and hear you clearly.
