Q: Are transfer students eligible to apply for the Musical Theatre minor?
Yes, all Chapman students are eligible to apply for the Musical Theatre minor. However, keep in mind that the requirements for this minor typically take three years to fulfill.
Q: Are Musical Theatre minor students allowed to audition for mainstage musicals produced by the Department of Theatre?
In general, Musical Theatre minor students are NOT allowed to audition for mainstage musicals produced by the Department of Theatre. Rare exceptions may be made in conversation with the Chair of the Department of Theatre and the director of a specific production.
There are other performance opportunities in musicals outlined in the next section that you may wish to explore.
Q: What performance opportunities are there for Musical Theatre minor students?
In the final year of study, Musical Theatre minor students perform an intimate capstone production (PERF 498). The form and content of the production changes each year, depending on the particular strengths and interests of the cohort.
In addition, Musical Theatre minor students may audition for the university's annual Chapman Celebrates event, a Broadway-style revue in Musco Center for the Arts produced by the College of Performing Arts as part of a campus-wide scholarship campaign.
