What is an investiture?

An investiture is a time-honored academic tradition that marks the formal installation of a new university president. In academic settings, an inauguration typically refers to the entire series of events surrounding the formal ceremony of a new president, while investiture is the formal ceremony itself where the new president is given the authority and symbols of office.

Are all inauguration events open to everyone?

No, due to space constraints, some events, including the investiture ceremony, will be ticketed events. There will be some events that are open to the entire Chapman community and the public, and some events will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person. A full schedule of events will be available in the late summer/early fall.

When and where will the investiture ceremony be held?

The investiture will be held in the Musco Center for the Arts on Friday, October 10 at 3 P.M.

Will the investiture ceremony be livestreamed?

No, but a recording of the event will be made available the week after the investiture ceremony.

Do attendees have to pay to park?

Free parking is offered for all ticketed events on campus, subject to availability. Attendees may register for free event parking by following the parking link on the individual event page. The event-specific parking link can also be found in confirmation and reminder emails. Additionally, short-term parking permits are available for purchase on-site.

Parking is available in the Anderson structure underneath Ernie Chapman Stadium, directly next to the theater. Enter the underground structure off Walnut Avenue on the north edge of the campus.

Additional parking is offered in the Barrera structure at the corner of Sycamore and Lemon Street, behind the Fowler School of Law. Free parking in either structure is available for events, but registration is required.

Visit the parking website for more information.

The streets adjacent to campus are reserved for Orange resident-only permit parking. The affected blocks are marked with red and white signs. It is likely that you will be ticketed by the City of Orange if you park in one of these areas.

How do attendees get to the Musco Center for the Arts?

Visit the Musco Center Directions & Parking webpage for more information, including a detailed parking map.

How can guests with disabilities attending the investiture be accommodated?

What can attendees bring into the Musco Center for the Arts?

If guests elect not to consent to such searches, they may be denied entry to the event. Under Chapman University rules, certain items may not be brought into the premises, including, without limitation, alcohol, drugs, controlled substances, weapons, cameras, recording devices, laser pointers, strobe lights, irritants (e.g., artificial noisemakers), oversized bags, and containers.
